The Society for Name Studies in Britain and Ireland (SNSMI) Conference, Maynooth, Ireland, April 15-18, 2016

770978374_d9f88ce277_mThe Society for Name Studies in Britain and Ireland (SNSMI) will be holding its 25th annual Spring Conference from the 15th to the 18th of April 2016 at Maynooth University, a part of the National University of Ireland. Located on the outskirts of Dublin, access to the Maynooth campus is easily accessible from the Dublin Airport. In addition to the main conference, the event organizers will also be hosting a special postgraduate workshop.

The deadline for registration is the 15th of November 2015. Researchers interested in presenting a paper on personal or place naming are asked to email their title and abstract to submissions to confsec at snsbi.org.uk.

Conference on Samoyedology, Moscow, Russia, September 8-10, 2016

Dedicated to the memory of Ariadna Kuznetsova (1932-2015), this conference will bring to together lexicographers, linguists, anthropologists, and folklorists whose research centers upon the group of Finno-Ugric languages spoken in Siberia and the Russian Arctic.

Samoyedic language researchers who are interested in presenting their work at this special event are asked to send in a scientific abstract of ca. 3,600 characters by the March 1st 2016. Annual Conference of the Council of Geographical Names Authorities (COGNA), Reno, Nevada, May 3-4 2016

Although the conference plan has not yet been finalized, according to the event organizers, the 2016 COGNA will feature a meeting of the U.S. Board of Geographic Names.

The Society for Low German Linguistic Research Annual Meeting, Stendal Germany, May 16-19 2016

17961601620_979ccef932_mThe Society for Low German Linguistic Research (Vereins für niederdeutsche Sprachforschung) will be holding it 129th annual meeting from the 16th to the 19th of May 2016 in Stendal, Germany.

With that goal in sight, the Society has officially opened its call for papers. Research papers dealing with the topics of historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, and lexicography in Low German languages are welcome.

The special theme of the 2016 conference is new research methods for investigating the language and/or literature of low German (e.g. Narratology, multi-/ cross-media studies).

Anyone interested in presenting is asked to send in a 250 word/2,000 character abstract to Ingrid Schroeder (ingrid.schroeder[@]uni-hamburg.de). The deadline for receipt of proposals is October 15, 2015. The conference language is German. Click here for more about the society.
